Shri Eklingji Mahadev Temple is about 22 km from Udaipur and about 26 km from Nathdwara. Away is located on National Highway 76 at a place named Kailashpuri. It is one of the major temples of Rajasthan, and a large number of devotees visit the Eklingji temple.

The deity of Mewar Maharana, Ekling Ji is called the ruler of Mewar and Maharana is called his Diwan. There will probably be no state in the whole of India where King Shiva is God. For this reason, Diwan Ji Adesht was written in all copper letters, inscriptions, buildings, caravans. Bagwan Shiva as Shri Ekling Mahadev is the chief worshiper of the Maharanas and other Rajputs of Mewar state. The stability is that the kings here are their representatives, they rule only formally. That is why Diwan Ji called Maharana of Udaipur. At the same time, the king used to worship Ekling Ji before going to any war and would bless him.

Architecture -

This holy temple started in 728 AD, but it was renovated by various rulers as time went on. No written evidence has been found regarding the construction and doers of this temple, but according to Jansruti, it was built by Bappa Rawal around the eighth century (728 AD), after which the temple was given, which was later Maharana of Udaipur. Mokal got it renovated and Maharana Raymal owes full credit to the new look of the present temple. The Chaturmukhi statue of Mahadev built of black marble of the said temple was founded by the restored Maharana Raymal in the late 15th and 16th centuries. In front of the south gate of the temple is a plaque containing 100 pieces of Maharana Rayamal related shlokas.

According to an article established by the temple trust outside the temple premises here, the present Chaturukhi Linga was established when the original Banalinga flowed from the state of Dungarpur to Indiranagar.

Interior of Eklingji Temple -


There is Eklingji Temple situated on the banks of Indrasagar Lake, which has about 108 temples inside its walls. All these temples are made of candy and limestone. The main temple is a two-storied building, looks spectacular with its roof pyramid style and beautifully carved tower.

In its main temple, there is a black marble Charmukhi statue of Lord Eklingji which depicts Brahma on the west, Vishnu on the north, Shiva on the south and Surya on the east.

Made of white marble, the 50 feet high peak is famous for its very fine workmanship.

Other statues like the Nandi bull of Shiva and the statue of Bappa Rawal are installed outside the main temple. The bust of Bappa Rawal is situated in front of the Nandi bull. Two other Nandi bulls are also located in the temple, one made of black stone and the other made of brass.

Shivalinga is situated in the middle which has four idols of Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, and Lord Karthik. Statues of Goddess Saraswati and Goddess Yamuna can also be seen inside the temple complex.

The door of the main temple is made of silver with Ganesha on one door and Karthike's portrait on the other, seeing that he is the guard of his father.

Two tanks namely Karaj Kund and Tulsi Kund appear to the north of Eklingji temple. The water from these tanks is used during the consecration of the Lord. During Shivaratri, the idol of Lord Shiva is decked with ornaments.

Small temples dedicated to Amba Mata and Kalka Mata can also be seen in the temple complex.

The main gate of the temple is towards the west.

The most important temple from the south is the "Nath Temple". It is built upwards. The chariot outside it has an inscription dated 1028 AD. And in the second chariot outside, there is a beautiful statue of Saraswati. Which is an outstanding achievement of the 10th century?

The chariot on the right side of the temple has a 16-handed Traylokya Mohan statue.

Indra Sarovar -

There is a legend about Indra Sarovar that when the tide started coming from Brahm to kill Indrasura, Jupiter questioned not seeing any salvation from him. According to the legend, Indra has discovered a pond nearby by making foliage to worship Ekling Ji for the retirement of sponsoring the killing of Brahman. The same has been called Indra Sarovar. Not only this, but Indra also prayed to give the fruit to the pond, and after that, the name of that pond was named Indra Sarovar, and Ekling Ji gave the pride of the person giving the entire fruit.

Vaghela pond -

While going to Udaipur there is a Baghela pond. Maharaja Mokal got it constructed in the name of his brother Bhag Singh.




History of Ekling Ji


History tells that considering the Ekling Ji as a witness, the Rana of Mewar has asked for a claim of historical importance here many times. Many plagues came in the life of Maharaja Pratap here, but he faced those calamities. But once his courage was about to break, he answered Prithvi Raj, the king of Bikaner, who was still present in Akbar's court, with a letter of eloquence and heroic inspiration.
